Stuffed Buns

Posted by in Bread, Breakfast, Snacks, Vegetables

When I was girl, my mother used to make bread rolls. They had left over vegetables spiced up and stuffed into bread that was deep fried. We saw a lot of that on the table in summers when we kids turned our noses up on the watery gooey vegetables and preferred eating our roti and rice with pickles and a fried egg. Well, the summer vegetables are still watery and bland. But both my sons won’t touch anything deep fried by me. Oh they will have fried momos and aloo…read more

Summer Mango smoothies

Posted by in Banana, Breakfast, Healthy Living, Mango

Summer is here in earnest and I hate cooking for long hours. My cooking routine is simple. I wake up early, rustle up a simple meal and am out of the kitchen by 7:30 a.m. With the mercury soaring to 29 degrees and 30 degrees it is the best way to be. But that is just one meal. For the rest of the day, me and the boys live on smoothies. I wonder why we did not do that earlier. When the kids were younger I often made milkshakes and…read more

Sweet Potato Bread

Posted by in Bread, Breakfast, Gluten free, Grain free, Healthy Living, Paleo, Sweet Potato

I’ve become a huge fan of sweet potatoes.  There was a time when all I knew was that we could roast them, squeeze a lemon on them, spice them up and have them as a snack. They are so versatile and forgive all kinds of tweaks you can give to them. This bread is made with sweet potato and arrowroot.  It is delicious.  The recipe is really simple and is adapted from the one I found on www.iquitsugar.com

Zucchini Bread Paleo

Posted by in Arrowroot, Bread, Breakfast, Gluten free, Grain free, Healthy Living, Low Carb, Paleo, Vegetables

I had two zucchini sitting in the fridge, which really had to be used. The problem with being alone at home is that one ends up eating left overs. The boys have gone away for four days and I had no intention of inflicting myself with zucchini day in and day out. Bread is a wonderful option isn’t it. Ever since I taught myself to bake grain free, I am a happy baker. There is nothing like bread to spread butter on and have with a hot cup of coffee….read more

This is a recipe that I found good to use when I am craving roti.  This is grain free, had hardly any egg and tastes awesome with honey and a bit of butter.  A win win attempt. This makes me so happy. I had it with a filling of sweet potato and peas Peas is not strictly paleo but it is winter and they are so fresh and sweet right now.  I cooked a filling of it.

Grain Free Crepes, Paleo

Posted by in Breakfast, Egg, Gluten free, Grain free, Healthy Living, Paleo

Winters for me used to mean chilla, parantha and pooda.  My mother made poodas with maida or flour, topped them with a topping made of sugar, coconut and nuts.  We also had them with a dry savory topping made of peas, baby potatoes and carrots.  Today I wanted crepes.  Thank you internet!  Thank you Google!  I found this brilliant recipe.  Wonder how people lived without internet?  Wonder how I lived without it! These crepes are made with just three ingredients, arrowroot, eggs and oil. Arrowroot flour – I have used…read more

Sago pearls (Sabudana) khichdi

Posted by in Breakfast, Dinner, Healthy Living, One Pot Meal, Paleo, Vegan

I am currently having a love-hate relationship with my diet.  I love the health benefits I am getting and I hate the diet because there are so little options.  Today I did not want to look at cheese or chicken.  So monotonous. I was out of buckwheat flour. I had a packet of sago in the cupboard.  Danced a happy jig and then went online to check if it was paleo. What is sago or tapioca? Tapioca or sago is known as cassava, cassada, cassaba, sabudana is the starch of…read more
