Raw Banana Kofta Curry

Posted by in Banana, Dinner, Healthy Living, Indian, Lunch, Paleo

I love banana, in any shape and form.  I can feast on banana chips.  It is the best invention known to man.  Most days when I am too rushed to think of cooking anything for breakfast, I grab a couple of bananas and a spoonful of peanut butter.  It is my breakfast-on-the-go recipe.  Today the farmer’s market near my house had lots of raw banana.  I decided to make this kofta curry for lunch.

Ingredients
  1. Raw Banana : 5
  2. Cumin Powder : 1/2 teaspoon
  3. Turmeric : 1/2 teaspoon
  4. Chilli Powder : 1 teaspoon (or to taste)
  5. Salt : To taste
  6. Ginger Garlic paste : 1 teaspoon
  7. Chickpea flour (besan) : two tablespoon
Instructions
  1. 1. Boil the bananas. When placing the bananas in the cooker to boil, add a spoonful of oil. This will prevent your vessel from blackening.
  2. 2. Peel them and then mash them with all the ingredients except the chickpea flour.
  3. 3. Roll them into balls. From five bananas I got 14 one inch balls
  4. 4. Spread chickpea flour on a plate and roll the balls in it gently so that they get coated.
  5. 5. Deep fry them to golden brown. I use mustard oil to do this.

Ingredients
  1. Onions : 2 medium, chopped
  2. Tomato : 1 medium, chopped
  3. Green chillis : 2
  4. Cumin seeds : 1 teaspoon
  5. Yoghurt : 1 tablespoon
  6. Bay leaf : 1
  7. Curry leaves : 1 tiny sprig
  8. Coriander Powder : 1/2 teaspoon
  9. Turmeric powder : 1/2 teaspoon
  10. Ginger garlic paste : 1/2 teaspoon
Instructions
  1. Heat 3 tablespoon of oil in kadai and add cumin seeds and bay leaf. I used mustard oil. I do not use refined, not only because it is not paleo but also because it is downright unhealthy.
  2. After cumin seeds pop add curry leaves.
  3. Add the green chilies and onion. I was out of green chilli so I used dry red chilli. *Shrug*
  4. Fry till turns to pink in colour
  5. Then add chopped tomato. Add ginger-garlic paste and saute well. till the gravy releases oil
  6. Now add turmeric, red chilli, coriander and garam masala powders
  7. Stir fry and then add the salt and yoghurt
  8. Cook till the mixture releases oil.
  9. Add two cups of water and bring to boil
  10. Now gently tip in the fried banana balls and reduce the heat to simmer
  11. Cook for two minutes.
  12. Garnish with coriander leaves
  13. Serve hot with roti or rice. I had it with sama rice.
